Pioneer Housing Foundation Has an Open House
April 19, 2011For 50 years, Pioneer Housing Foundation has been responding to community needs in Strathcona County. Recently a 60 unit expansion to our Silver Birch Place development was completed. In January of 2011, Pioneer Housing Foundation’s mandate changed to include affordable housing for all age groups.
The Alberta Government and Strathcona County have been working together to provide more affordable housing units for people of all age groups. In 2008, Strathcona county’s Housing Needs Assessment identified a great need for affordable housing for single parent families as well as individuals between the ages of 55-65 on Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH).
The Foundation has plans to construct a 70 unit, 4-storey affordable housing apartment on our Silver Birch Place development for these two groups of people. This new apartment will increase our development’s expected occupancy to about 300 persons. We are currently in the design stage of the project.
